Story:
I was born in the Albany/Saratoga region of New York but destined to come to Texas with a name like "Amanda Sue." My family moved to The Woodlands in 1992 where we attended church on a regular basis. When I was 12 years old, I accepted Christ and was baptized. My real walk with Christ was developed and challenged when I went to college. I attended Texas A&M University in College Station to study Elementary Education. WHOOP! After moving away from my family, I quickly realized Christ's ultimate sufficiency in my life and my walk with Him on a daily basis began to grow. During my sophomore year I was diagnosed with malignant Melanoma. After receiving the call on a Monday morning, I remember the heart wrenching feeling I had. I had so many questions and doubts that filled my mind, but through it all my relationship with Christ grew tremendously. It was a dark, challenging time for me; however, looking back, I see just how God used that experience to shape me, mold me, and wake me up out of the complacency I had fallen into.
After graduating in 2007 from A&M with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, I moved back to The Woodlands and began teaching 2nd grade. My passion for working with children has been evident to me since I was practically a child myself. I knew from a very young age that whatever I did, I wanted it to be with children. Their love for life is contagious to me.
I began serving in KidsPoint soon after my family began attending Woodlands Point in 2009. Last year I got married and after being to many churches where we felt their credibility to the gospel was gone, Tigh and I knew immediately Woodlands Point was different. We both knew this was where God wanted us to be, our hearts aligned with the mission of this church, we felt at peace and rest with the decision to make it our home church. We quickly got into a community group and began sharing life with our new friends. Walking through life with Tigh and being mentored by the friends we have met through Woodlands Point has been the most beautiful picture of God's love to me. We continue to learn more and more about Christ's love through our marriage every day.
Amanda on Children's Ministry:
"My heart is for children. My prayer daily is that God would use the people at Woodlands Point to lay foundations of God's love in every child's heart. That every Sunday, they would leave with a little more knowledge than what they walked in with, so when they are faced with the pressures of this world, they would have God's word transcribed on their heart and know exactly how to respond. My hope is that every child will know God's love for them and that the relationship they develop with him at a young age will continue to grow deeper everyday and spread to all of those around them."
Vision for Woodlands Point:
"My vision for Woodlands Point is that it continues to grow in order to spread the word of God through our community and beyond. That we would stay an authentic Christ-focused, Christ-centered people so when people who do not know Christ look at us, they immediately see his love."
