Our Calling as a Church
3.17.2011 // Sean Eppers
At Woodlands Point Community Church, God has given us a mission and vision of who we want to be as a church family. Our mission… to be a Gospel-centered church committed to bringing glory to God by seeing lives transformed through the power of Jesus. In our context, we are a community of people who have been radically transformed by grace and work diligently to extend the message of the Gospel into our community, the Greater Houston area, and the world. To do this our strategy is to build up New Testament believers who worship Christ, live in biblical community, get equipped for ministry, and live on mission. Our values, or philosophy of ministry, represent the way Christ ministered. He was the perfect priest, king, and prophet. Therefore, we desire to do all things with this perspective. Specifically, we want to be a people who believe in, experience, and view everything through these values: God [Prophetic or Proclamation] We believe that everything begins and ends with God. He is the beginning and the end, the alpha and omega. He is in complete sovereign control of every person, system, group, business, nation, and church. He is worthy of all worship, and our goal should be to bring him glory in all we do. Gospel [Priestly or Incarnational] We believe the Gospel is in fact the Good News of Jesus Christ. It is not a set of tenets to believe, but a lense through which everything in our life is seen and experienced in a new, redeemed manner. It is not just a doorway into Christianity, but it is also the path by which we walk as Christians, and the goal for which we are striving. Jesus, His perfect life, His atoning sacrifice, His bodily resurrection, and His righteousness attributed to us frees us daily and hourly from self-loathing and from self-exaltation. The Gospel impacts everything. Mission [Kingly or Missiological] God did not give us new life just for ourselves, but also that we might spread His Gospel to the unreached – the unreached across the street and the unreached across the globe. We are not a people without purpose, we are the redeemed people of God given a specific mission – to preach Christ crucified to the world. Share this Blog
