Our Church: Three Years Later
6.15.2011 // Jason Johnson

Today, June 15th, marks the 3 year anniversary of Woodlands Point Community Church. On this day in 2008 a core group of 20 people opened the doors to WPCC’s first official worship gathering at a small intermediate school in The Woodlands, TX. Nearly 150 people worshiped and celebrated Jesus together that morning. It represented months and months of planning all coming together, and it began an exciting journey that has been undoubtedly lavished in the grace and mercy of God.

The vision of Woodlands Point has been, and always will be, to see lives transformed by the power of the Gospel for God’s great glory and our great joy in Jesus. While the “face” of Woodlands Point has changed over three years time (i.e. a different Sunday worship facility, a different logo, a few hundred new people, new office space, a larger staff, etc.), the heart of Woodlands Point remains the same – to see Jesus exalted above all in our city, the Gospel saturated in the heart of our city, God’s glory be the aim of our city and His Kingdom come and inhabit our city.

It is for this purpose we labor and strive – and by the grace of God we have seen Him move in our midst.

As we celebrate our three year anniversary we are hopeful looking forward and grateful looking back. We thank Jesus for His work on our behalf through the Cross, and how He alone is manifesting that into the hearts and lives of people at WPCC and in our surrounding communities. As we have strived to declare and demonstrate the Gospel with integrity, clarity, fulness and power we have been overjoyed to see God work among us and through us. We resonate with Paul’s sentiment in 1 Corinthians, chapter 1 when He speaks of God using the weak and foolish things of this world to to declare and demonstrate the wisdom and power of the Gospel. We are weak, feeble and often foolish – but God is good, gracious and always glorious. We, like Paul, boast not in ourselves but in Him and Him alone.

Below are a few evidences of God’s grace that we humbly celebrate and recognize as His doing, by His power, for His glory!

  • Community Groups: Currently 23 groups (couples, singles, men’s, women’s, students) meeting around the city throughout the week.
  • Orphan Care: Dozens of families in the Orphan Care Network pursuing fostering and/or adopting abused and marginalized children.
  • Staff: Currently 6 staff members, with an exciting announcement about a new addition coming later this summer!
  • Compassion Honduras: Dozens of families sponsoring poverty stricken children through a Compassion International project in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. (Info about a spring ’12 trip to Honduras coming soon!)
  • KidsPoint: On average, KidsPoint serves nearly 100 kids a week through engaging, interactive, Gospel-centered lessons and large group environments.
  • Serve Teams: On a monthly basis, nearly 125 people serve the ministries of WPCC through KidsPoint, Set-Up/Tear-Down and Greeter/Hospitality teams.
  • Strategic Mission Partnerships: Dozens of people at WPCC serve our city with the Gospel on a regular basis through organizations like 45 & Hope, Redeemed Ministries and The Pregnancy Assistance Center.
  • Church Planting Residency: Info to come soon about WPCC’s first 2-year church planting residency program.

This is just a snapshot of what Jesus is doing at Woodlands Point. Underneath all that is a current of Gospel movement taking shape, where we are seeing stories of the Gospel lived out in people’s lives through restored relationships, missional living and reorganizing of life around Gospel community. In the end, people who are far from Jesus are being brought near by His gracious initiative to salvation, and for that we are eternally grateful.

We boast in the Lord alone, and His finished work for us on the Cross (1 Corinthians 1:31). He is our joy, our hope, our peace and our sustenance. We pray the Gospel would radically form us as a people in the years to come, and would radically transform our city and our world for His ultimate glory.

We look forward to, with great anticipation, many more great things to come in Jesus.

Congratulations Pastor Jason and team on the third anniversary of Woodlands Point. Although so much has been accomplished in such a short time, the best is yet to come as the church grows and expands it’s reach and ministry. Awesome!
