October KidsPoint Lesson: Creativity
9.29.2011 // Amanda Holmstrom

As the air turns colder, and the leaves begin to change color (assuming they are from the perspective of Fall being here and not a drought), let’s take a minute to stop the busyness of life and admire what our amazing God has created all around us.  Genesis 1:1 states “In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth.”  This means the entire universe! Our vast universe filled with stars, moons, and planets. The oceans, rivers, streams and waterfalls filled with fish of all sizes and colors.  He created glaciers, forests, mountains, valleys, lions, and elephants, even creatures as tiny as an ant. God thought of them all and created them into existence. But, the most amazing thing he created was us—Humanity, created in the image of God. Therefore, a part of his creative imagination lies within each one of us. WOW! That is powerful.

Imagine what we can do with the unique creativity he has given each one of us. This month as we read through scripture we will learn more about God being creative, how he exemplifies that, how he instills that creativity into us to shape us to be more like him, and finally how he can use his creativity through us to influence our family, friends, and neighbors to see him!

Here are the lessons we will use this month to help us learn about the connection between CREATIVITY and God’s Character.

  • You were created, so you can be creative. (Creation story) Genesis 1:1-2:1
  • Use your imagination to think big. (Moses and Miriam) • Exodus 1:22-2:10
  • Use your imagination to make your mark. (David’s final words)  2 Samuel 23:1-2
  • Use your imagination to do more good. (Sermon on the Mount, salt and light) • Matthew 5:14-16

Memory Verse For The Month:

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10, NIV
